What is Money Market?

Money market refers to all those instruments with a maturity of less than a year. Large borrowers avail resources from these markets in order to finance their short-term needs. The money market is seen as a safe place to put money due to the highly liquid nature of the securities and short maturities.

Real gross domestic product for Q2 FY2025-26 grew at a rate of 8.2% on a year-on-year basis, as compared to 5.6% in Q2 FY2024-25.

Monetary Policy
In the fifth Bi-monthly Monetary Policy for FY2025-26, the RBI-MPC unanimously decided to cut policy rates by 25 basis points. Key policy rates stand as follows: Repo rate at 5.25%, Standing Deposit Facility rate at 5.00% and Marginal Standing Facility and Bank rate at 5.50%.

The Consumer Price Index (Combined) inflation for December 2025 was at 1.3% as compared to the previous reading of 0.7%.

WPI inflation printed higher at 0.8% in December 2025 as compared to -0.3% in the previous month, on an annual basis.
